C.A. Cofer

CA & Joan Cofer

As a lifetime member of both the national and state Quarter Horse associations, C. A. Cofer of Wichita has been prominent in a wide range of activities. A member of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors, Cofer has also served as a past president. In 1979 he initiated the Midwestern Quarter Horse Circuit and directed it for 20 years. He also began the Flatland Circuit in 1984 and directed it until 1991. Over the years, Cofer has managed and served as auctioneer for numerous KQHA sponsored horse sales.

As an AQHA judge from 1974-2000, Cofer he has overseen shows from coast to coast and border to border plus Hawaii. He has officiated at many of the top shows in the country including the AQHA World Championship Show, the All-American Quarter Horse Congress, and multiple AJQHA World Shows. His international judging experiences include Mexico and Canada, plus Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. Cofer also holds judging cards in the Palomino and Paint Horse associations, judging many prestigious events for both of these groups.

Cofer was elected an AQHA national director in 1992 and was elevated to Director Emeritus in 2002. He is currently a member of the Show and Contest Committee and Chairman of the World Show Subcommitee.

No stranger to the show arena, Cofer has bred, raised, and/or shown numerous KQHA year-end high point winners and futurity champions. Among these have been such greats as H. H. Dee, an AQHA Champion; Deedle Breeze, AAA; Deedle Betina, AQHA Champion; Mr. Cool Breeze, High Point Gelding of the nation in 1974; Deedle Will, AQHA Champion; Deedle Deedle Dee, Superior Pleasure; Pretty Me Too, AQHA Champion and Superior Western Pleasure; Silver C Cash, third at the World Show in Junior Calf Roping; Sandy Widette, multiple futurity winner, High Point KQHA yearling; and the list goes on.

Among the stallions that Cofer has owned and stood at stud are Bar’s Bert, AQHA Champion; Wilbur Bradley, AQHA Champion son of Win or Lose; Bar Y Sandy, a superior siring son of Silver Cash; and Cash Dominator, AQHA Champion, Superior Performance Horse, sired by Silver Cash.

Among his other accomplishments and careers, Cofer was the owner and president of Western Heritage Tack Company from 1988-1999; a sales manager and auctioneer from 1955-1990, and manager of MBJ Quarter Horses from 1978-1981.
