To SUCCEED according to Webster’s Dictionary is to “accomplish what is attempted; to flourish; to thrive.” That’s exactly what 20 year-old Quarter Horse enthusiast, Jessica Naaykens of Joplin, MO, has done. Jessie is a member of the very successfully---TEAM HOPE at Horses of Hope Riding Center in Baxter Springs, KS. Jessie has been competing on TEAM HOPE for 2 years.
The words EXTREME SUCCESS come to the fore front when we think of Jessie and Chip Chocoholic, her 20 year old bay quarter horse gelding , better known as “Chip”. Chip was graciously donated to Horses of Hope Riding Center several years ago by Betty Murfin, Nancy Murfin –Moxley and their family, of Wichita, KS. Chip has been about the business of “success” for many years, as he carried many members of this fine long time Quarter Horse family to see many national awards and titles over the years, within the Quarter Horse World of competition. Jessie will quickly tell you that “Chip” is her very best friend! He is a very good listener and knows exactly how I feel.”
This year Horses of Hope is extremely proud to announce that Jessie and Chip are the National AQHA Award Winners in all of the EWD Walk/Trot Classes-Showmanship, Western Horsemanship, Hunt Seat Equitation and Trail!! Jessie is the national winning rider in each class and Chip is the national winning horse in each class. They will be receiving their 2009 awards at the 2010 AQHA National Convention in Kissimmee, FL in early March. Congratulations Jessie and Chip on an outstanding job in 2009. This brings Horses of Hope’s AQHA national totals to (9) national champion riders and (10) national champion horse awards.
Just last summer, Jessie and Chip, were 3 time World Champions at the NSBA World Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma in Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle and Trail. As well as, being named World Champion in the first independent Horsemanship class to ever be held at the 2009 Palomino World Show in Tulsa, OK , as well.
Competition for riders with disabilities, not only “levels the playing field”, but it is an excellent outgrowth to their weekly therapeutic riding lesson, fosters independence, provides a “team sport” opportunity, provides an avenue for social networking; builds self-esteem; and is a great opportunity to make new friends and be proud of your hard work and accomplishments!!!
Thank you KQHA for the part you all have played in helping Jessie and Chip achieve their many successes!
