2009 KQHYA Annual Meeting Minutes
On January 17, 2009, Chandry Kraft called the KQHYA annual meeting to order. Everyone in the room introduced themselves and then Paris read the minutes of the last annual meeting. Chandry then passed her presidency on down to Mariah Moxley the 2009 president. Ruth Knapp gave a financial report, our income was $48,273.55 and our expenses were $43,059.45. The motion to approve the financial report was moved by Erin Connell and seconded by Abbi Demel.
In old business Paris introduced the 2008 Congress team and gave abrief description of the experience. Laura Smith reported on fundraising for2008. Bake sale $449.28; Copy machine $113.99; Sponsorships $4305; Silent Auction $852; Permanent numbers $355; KQHA entries $1497.50; Raffle ticket sales $1457.87.
There were no updates in membership or leadership committees.
Chandry Kraft gave an update on the year-end awards committee and then gave a report over Youth World. All youth world qualifiers were given a chest and T-shirt. Chuck Sperry spoke about the scholastic recipient, Chandry Kraft. He encouraged anyone eligible for a scholarship should apply.
We then discussed world show qualifying and if we wanted to lock the qualifying point system in for 3 years. Abbi Demel moved and Cassie Collins seconded motion for current qualifying system to be in effect for 3 years. However, the number of qualifying shows may change.
Chuck spoke about receiving the sportsmanship awards and we then voted. At the general meeting the winner would be announced.
Election of officers was held. Paris was nominated for Vice President; Erin Connell was nominated for secretary; Madison Vosburgh was nominated for Public Relations. The 2009 board of directors are Chelsea Zillner-- year end awards, Katie Ralph-- Leadership/Scholarship, Jenna Persons-- Membership, Sidney Doane-- fundraising, and Rachael Tearney-- Congress and Youth World.
Jeff Mellott provided information about the Youth World Assistance Fund application. Money is available through a private donor for assistance in paying expenses for the youth world show. He encouraged all to apply. Applications are available on the AQHA web and are due by May 1. However, early applications receive first consideration.
Ruth Knapp then spoke about YES conference and who might want to attend. It is held in Amarillo Texas and in the past KQHYA has helped with expenses. Applications are due May 15th.
Cassie Gifford then spoke about 2009 fundraising ideas; cook book, helping people unload, chili cookoff and raffling for free stalls. Raffle tickets were handed out to all members.
Sandy Bryant spoke about the youth show . The show will be split/combined on Sat and Sun. Help is needed for ring stewards, announcer, gate, setting up jumps and trail obstacles. Also, on Saturday we are all to wear something pink to support the cancer victims.
I made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Macy Putnam seconded it. Erin Connell, Secretary
