KQHA Members Excel On KSU Equestrian Team
The 2007 – 2008 edition of the Kansas State Equestrian Team contains several names which will be familiar to KQHA members. These girls are competing at the NCAA division 1 level of intercollegiate sports for Big Twelve, regional and national honors.
Senior Lindsey Salsbury received the honor of being named a captain for her final year on the team. Last year she was a member of the team which finished 6th at the NCAA championships and her record this year is 5 wins and no losses in horsemanship.
Erin Paulsen, has competed successfully for KSU on both the english and western teams, primarily in IHSA and JV competition.
Mickayla Mages is on the western team and has shown in the IHSA shows and on the junior varsity the last two years.
Mickayla Sundgren is competing on the western team this year in horsemanship and reining.
Claire Leet is showing on the western team in IHSA shows after transferring from MU last year.
Hayley Milch, a junior from Rozel, KS, is in her first year as a member on the team.
Also on the team is Alicia Zimbelman from St. Francis, KS. Alicia competes in varsity reining for the team and has a record of 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie.
The team record in meets this year is 4 wins and 2 losses. The wins include a victory over the defending national champion team from South Carolina, Baylor, South Dakota State and Tenn. Martin. The losses were to perennial powers Texas A&M and Auburn. The coaches for the team are Casie Williamson for the western and Ashley Foster with KQHA member Kasey Finnell in her first year as an assistant to the english team.
If you would like to come cheer your KQHA friends on there are several meets scheduled this spring at the home of the team, Fox Run Farms in Manhattan. On February 29th Oklahoma State comes to town for a Big Twelve match. March 9th will bring SEC power Georgia to KSU for a dual meet. March 14th will find Fresno State as the opponent for the cats. Finally a great opportunity to see many great riders will come as the central states championships will be held in Manhattan on March 29th & 30th. The final event of the year will be the NCAA championships at Waco, TX on April 17—19. For more information see the KQHA website under news.
