Hope In The Heartland Show A Big Success

The 2007 Hope In The Heartland Circuit featuring the KQHA futurity classes along with a slate of NSBA classes attracted many out of state competitors along with KQHA members. This year there were many new attractions designed to improve the quality of the show for exhibitors and spectators alike. When people arrived at the show they were greeted with complementary ice water and a new water bucket provided by Walnut Valley placed in each stall. In addition, they found an improved facility with a covered warm up area in addition to the 2 indoor arenas. The only glitch in rennovating the coliseum is that someone who remains nameless seems to think that showers for those staying in trailers are not necessary. This has been pointed out to be incorrect and hopefully changes will be made in the future to rectify this issue.

On Friday night exhibitors and spectators were treated to wonderful barbeque catered by Hog Wild and courtesy of Murfin Ranch and Betty Murfin of Wichita, Ks. During the meal those purchasing slots in the trail calcutta were assigned their horses from the Sr. Trail class. Chuck Sperry drew the winner Docs Pleasure Drug owned by Paul Gonya and ridden by Jet Thompsen. Proceeds from the slot sale were split between the purchaser and the theraputic riding programs in Kansas with each receiving $550.00. After the meal everyone was treated to the doggie trail class with many contestants choosing to tackle the demanding course that included a tunnel, jumps, a bridge and weave poles.

Futurity classes were held throughout the weekend with winners in the NSBA classes receiving placques provided by NSBA, KQHA Breeders winners getting buckles which will be personalized, amatuer classes receiving monogrammed directors chairs and the Purina class receiving a buckle as well. All around winners for the weekend received sterling buckles provided by Kathys and our show sponsors.
